Tencent appears to be rapidly advancing in the third-person action-adventure game space, and Western titles seem to be inspiring its newer projects. 

Job listings have revealed that the Chinese-based developer is now working on a third-person game seemingly inspired by Uncharted and Tomb Raider.

Why it matters: There’s been a surge in popularity for third-person action-driven titles like Uncharted in recent times, and it’s natural that Tencent would capitalize on that.

Throughout several job listings at Tencent, there have been tidbits of this mysterious project codenamed “T“.

In the Senior Engine Developer job posting, they list Unreal Engine 5 experience as a requirement. Furthermore, they also require familiarity with third-person action-adventure games.

On the other hand, the Client Development Engineer position mentions complex terrain, climbing, and parkour mechanics

Combined, these details give a rough idea of what Tencent is aiming for, codenamed “T,” and it seems awfully similar to Uncharted or Tomb Raider games. 

Previously, Tencent had wanted to work on a new Last of Us game, but Sony turned the idea down. Later, they ripped off Sony’s Horizon with their new title “Light of Motiram,” which was later removed after a lawsuit from Sony

Now, it isn’t to say that project codenamed “T” would be a replica of Uncharted or The Last of Us games; that remains to be seen. Still, it’s interesting to see Tencent tread down this path, and this third-person action-adventure game would certainly be appreciated.
