A Decent Remake, But Nothing Stands Out Too Much!

Story Highlight
  • Halo Campaign Evolved reviews are finally out, and it has scored an 80 on Metacritic.
  • It is a solid remake with great visuals, but doesn’t do anything to stand out.
  • It is faithful to the original game, perhaps a bit too much as per modern standards.

The Halo franchise is one of the biggest and most popular Xbox IPs. For the longest time, it was an exclusive, but now it is finally set to make its debut on PlayStation 5, and the reviews for the new remake are finally here.

Halo Campaign Evolved has garnered a score of 80 on Metacritic. It is a decent entry, but the score is far less than the original Halo: Combat Evolved from 2001, which is among the highest-rated titles ever with 97.

Why it matters: It is a very faithful remake of the original with impressive visuals and improved mechanics. However, there are some glaring issues that just can’t be ignored and hinder its path to the original’s glory.

Halo Campaign Evolved scores an okayish 81 on Metacritic

On Metacritic, the title has a review score of 80. Here are scores for Halo Campaign Evolved from some prominent media outlets:

  • VGC – 10/10
  • Push Square – 9/10
  • Game Informer – 8.5/10
  • PSX Brazil – 8.5/100
  • Gamespot – 8/10
  • TheGamer – 8/10
  • Gamesradar – 7/10
  • DualShockers – 6.5/10

Overall, the remake isn’t a bad title, but it lacks the evolution that all the years since the original should have led up to. At the front, it’s fine, but digging deeper is where the problems start to arise, according to the reviews.

Starting with the positives, it is a very faithful remake that wonderfully captures the essence of one of the most legendary FPS games of all time. Additionally, the improved visuals and smoother combat add a nice touch.

Halo Campaign Evolved
It’s a decent entry but just feels a bit too safe

However, the major issue is that it doesn’t do anything out of the box. The level design isn’t that good, plus the bonus missions are disappointing and a letdown. Most of all, the game isn’t doing anything revolutionary to stand out.

Still, this is a solid entry for PlayStation users who will be experiencing Halo for the very first time. Those who haven’t played it might like it much more, since it is going to be a brand new and fresh experience for them.
