- Modern Warfare 4 launches in October and has received plenty of new gameplay footage.
- Recent multiplayer gameplay has disappointed fans, with many calling out the game for looking too much like past games.
- Many say that they will not be buying a game that fails to differentiate itself from its predecessors in a substantial way.
As is the case every year, Activision is gearing up to release another installment of Call of Duty. This year’s entry comes from Infinity Ward and marks the 4th entry in the rebooted Modern Warfare saga.
Modern Warfare 4 is set to launch in October, and ahead of its release, Activision is now sharing gameplay footage to build anticipation for the title. Interestingly, however, many fans are upset at the fact that Modern Warfare 4 looks a bit too much like its predecessors.
Why it matters: Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty title is following up on Black Ops 7, a game many consider one of the series’ weakest entries to date. As such, these reactions from an already-disappointed community are cause for concern.

Over on social media, the latest Call of Duty has received a ton of footage recently, showcasing the multiplayer game mode.
Initial reactions to this gameplay have not been the most positive. Many have called Modern Warfare 4 a reskinned Call of Duty entry, claiming that they will not be paying for a game that looks so much like its predecessors.
Others have drawn comparisons to Modern Warfare 2019 and Modern Warfare 2, the last two games in the series developed by Infinity Ward. A lot of people claim that it would be hard to tell the difference between the games, even if they were put side by side.
Although Modern Warfare 4 is ditching last-generation consoles, fans still feel the game fails to stand out from its predecessors, even when considering the visual aspects alone.
I am not buying MW4 if this is what the game looks like. It looks exactly like Modern Warfare 2019 and MW2.

I wouldn’t be able to tell you if this is MW, MWII, MWIII, or MW4 without the title.

What makes this situation so interesting is that many felt the same way about Modern Warfare 3 leading up to its launch. Perhaps these fan reactions are a sign that Call of Duty needs a big shakeup, much like it did before Infinity Ward first rebooted its Modern Warfare series.
