Ubisoft May Also Bring Back The Cancelled Hidden Blade Combat!

Story Highlight
  • Ubisoft is reportedly planning large story DLCs for the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag remake.
  • Some of the staff have DLC ideas. They will likely expand upon Edward Kennedy’s legacy.
  • Ubisoft is also listening to fan feedback and might add hidden blade combat with enough demand.

Despite various controversies, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has been a global success for Ubisoft, outselling Shadows by 2x at launch. It’s a first step in the right direction, so the company could monopolize this golden goose as much as possible.

The game director now confirms that Ubisoft is tinkering with the idea of making large-scale story DLCs after seeing a strong reception for AC Black Flag Resynced.

We could see large-scale expansions, like one in AC Shadows, that further expand on Edward Kennedy’s character and various locations of the remake.

Why it matters: The new story DLC could bring a swath of new and returning players to the AC Black Flag remake, potentially bringing in millions of new dollars in revenue. Players would also get to explore more about Edward Kennedy in return.

In an interview with JorRaptor on YouTube, game director and head of development Richard Knight explains that some developers on the Black Flag team already have DLC ideas they want to explore.

The company is currently focused on balancing these expansion ideas with post-launch support.

The reception has been amazing, but it’s so early right now. I know some folks on the team has DLC ideas. We need to balance those out with our future.

The director further explains that the large-scale expansions could focus on Edward Kennedy, as there is surely more to tell about the beloved Assassin’s Creed character.

Our focus with Black Flag remake has always been Edward. […] Maybe there could be more to tell there too.

Richard also shuts down any hopes of a Freedom Cry expansion but hints at the possibility of a full-fledged remake instead.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has been considered a critical success for Ubisoft.

Ubisoft is closely monitoring fan requests for the Black Flag remake, rather than following a traditional roadmap. So, there is a chance that the cancelled hidden blade combat also makes a return, as teased by the game director.

Do you think Ubisoft will bring additional DLCs for Black Flag Resynced? Could these expansions faithfully expand on Edward Kennedy’s legacy? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.
