Next-Gen Nvidia & AMD GPUs Could Arrive Late 2027 To Early 2028, AIB Partners Say

The New GPUs Are Taking Longer Than Usual Thanks To Memory Shortages!

Story Highlight
  • Several AIB partners argue that AMD RDNA 5 GPUs are aiming for a late 2027 to early 2028 launch window.
  • Previous reports have suggested a similar time frame for next-gen Nvidia GPUs.
  • Chipmakers are forced to stretch this GPU generation by up to a whole year due to the memory crisis.

The gaming GPU market has become incredibly volatile since last year, with Nvidia now not even reporting client GPU sales. GPU makers are mainly catering to AI tech giants first, but anticipation for their next-gen consumer GPU lineup remains at an all-time high.

A new report reveals that AMD’s upcoming bundle of RDNA 5 GPUs is aiming for a late 2027 to early 2028 release window.

A few AIB partners have suggested a more optimistic second or third quarter of 2027 as a possibility, but it appears to be highly unlikely.

Why it matters: The current generation of GPUs is lasting longer than expected, and the next one could be priced even higher and have a smaller stock from the get-go if the memory shortage doesn’t end anytime soon.

Nvidia and AMD GPUs are reportedly aiming for a late 2027 to early 2028 release, AIB partners claim.
Nvidia and AMD GPUs are reportedly aiming for a late 2027 to early 2028 release, AIB partners claim.

This report comes from Tweakers, a Dutch outlet that attended the latest Computex event and met with several AIB partners. AMD RDNA 5 GPUs have been internally delayed, pushing the new GPU generation beyond the established roughly two-year timeframe.

Previous rumors, such as the report by The Information, also mentioned that Nvidia was delaying its next-gen GPUs due to memory shortages in early 2026. A similar late 2027 to early 2028 release schedule was mentioned for the RTX 60 series cards.

Therefore, both GPU makers are aiming for a similar window for their next-gen cards, pushing the current generation to last 2.5 to even 3 years.

GPU prices have continued to increase after the AI boom started.

Regardless, the next-gen cards by Nvidia and AMD will be announced sometime next year, and we may learn of a more specific release window then.

As you’d expect, the ongoing memory crisis and AI boom are the leading culprits behind these internal delays. Nvidia even cancelled its mid-gen RTX Super refresh due to the ongoing DRAM and VRAM shortages.

Do you think both Nvidia and AMD will launch their next lineup of GPUs around the same time window? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.
