Assassin’s Creed Hexe Suffers Second Major Leadership Exit As Game Director Jumps Ship

The Game Is Being Led By Origins & Black Flag Creative Director Jean Guesdon!

Story Highlight
  • Assassin’s Creed Hexe game director at Ubisoft Montreal is the next major lead to jump ship from the project.
  • He has now joined a new indie studio, Servo Games, as a co-founder and game director.
  • The game director might have left due to internal disagreements over Hexe’s direction, as per an insider.

The latest Black Flag Resynced reveal brought Assassin’s Creed into a positive spotlight after a long time. Unfortunately, this stardom does not mean the upcoming mainline projects are guaranteed to perform well in the near future.

The ongoing management issues at Ubisoft continue to impact AC Hexe. It has now suffered a second major leadership exit.

Game director Benoit Richer has left the project and moved on from Ubisoft after 9 years to pursue an indie venture, Servo Games.

Why it matters: AC Hexe is supposed to be Ubisoft’s attempt at a Naughty Dog-level dark narrative experience, but the old leadership slowly leaving could spell disaster for the game’s future.

This sudden departure comes just months after AC Hexe’s creative director, Clint Hocking, was replaced following leadership changes. Jean Guesdon, the creative director behind Black Flag and Origins, took to fill that empty spot.

It’s unclear why Benoit Richer left Ubisoft, but notable insider xJonathan suggests that this exit might have been a result of internal disagreements.

According to Jonathan, Assassin’s Creed Hexe will no longer have magical elements that once drove its narrative direction. This change came after Jean Guesdon took the creative director role, which might have pushed Richer to leave the project for good.

Hexe gained a lot of attention for its focus on magical elements instead of historical realism, so fans are also worried.

The magical elements in AC Hexe have now been removed, as per the credible insider.

A recent report noted that Hexe was at a very sweet spot despite the departure of the creative director. Supposedly, all of Ubisoft wants to work on the game.

However, the game director leaving Hexe and a focus on historical realism might throw a wrench in the game’s final development years. AC Hexe is reportedly expected to feature the return of Ezio and may launch in the 2027 holiday season
