[Press Release] ASRock has introduced a new way to make DDR5 memory more affordable and flexible. The company announced that its Intel 600, 700, and 800 series motherboards now support One sub-channel (1×32-bit) DDR5 HUDIMM modules, offering a simpler and lower-cost alternative to standard designs.
Traditional DDR5 memory uses a dual-subchannel layout (2×32-bit), which improves high-capacity performance but increases cost and complexity. ASRock’s new approach reduces this to a single 32-bit sub-channel, cutting the number of memory chips per module. This directly lowers production costs and makes DDR5 more accessible for mainstream users.
The company worked with memory manufacturers, including TEAMGROUP, to develop this design. The goal is to increase the availability of cheaper DDR5 modules without compromising everyday performance.
This new memory type also improves flexibility. Users can mix One sub-channel and standard DDR5 modules for a better balance between cost and performance. Tests on the H610M COMBO II motherboard show that combining an 8GB One sub-channel module with a 16GB dual sub-channel module can deliver better bandwidth than a single 24GB traditional setup. It can also help reduce latency in certain workloads.
Support is not limited to desktop systems. ASRock has expanded compatibility across its DeskMini lineup to support HSODIMM DDR5, enabling small-form-factor PCs to benefit from the same technology.
Intel has backed the move, highlighting the need for more accessible DDR5 solutions as demand grows. By lowering costs and expanding configuration options, ASRock’s approach could accelerate DDR5 adoption across segments.
With BIOS updates already available, users can start using One sub-channel DDR5 on supported motherboards.
