Sony Doesn't Want A Series S Situation!

Story Highlight
  • There were rumors that there could be a PS6 Lite version with the next-gen consoles.
  • A leaker says that it isn’t happening because it will be a development nightmare.
  • He says it will be very different from the handheld, which runs on an AMD Canis chip.

The next generation of consoles isn’t too far away. We are expected to see them release somewhere from late next year to 2028. Now, there were some rumors that Sony will also experiment with a cheaper PS6 version this time around.

However, a prominent leaker has revealed that there are no plans for a PS6 Lite, as it would be a development nightmare for the developers. It will be very different from running titles and optimizing them on a handheld device

Why it matters: The Xbox Series S is often criticized for holding back the entire generation, and some studios even completely skip the console at launch to avoid messing up optimization for the powerful hardware.

Sony has no plans for a PS6 Lite console

KeplerL2 on NeoGAF was asked if he thinks there will be a PS6 Lite, to which he replied, “No, would be a nightmare for the developers”, so there is almost no chance that we will see a cheaper variant of Sony’s next-gen console.

Another user countered the question, saying that they do have the PS6 handheld in the works too, so it shouldn’t be a huge issue. Kepler states that the handheld runs on Canis CPU, which will make things different.

There will only be the PS6 and the handheld

While the CPU is fine to run titles on a small screen at 1080p resolution, it won’t be able to push graphics on a full-fledged home console; therefore, Sony won’t release anything like a PS6 Lite anytime soon.
