- The Crimson Desert team has already experimented with a multiplayer mode for Crimson Desert.
- The mode has been in the R&D phase, but it requires graphical sacrifices to work.
- It will be a huge challenge for Pearl Abyss, as sacrificing visuals could also backfire.
Crimson Desert has been a staggering success despite some hiccups during launch that were patched much sooner than anyone expected. The game is a treat to play due to its dynamic world, and fans are already looking forward to what’s next for it.
It’s been rumored that a multiplayer or co-op mode for Crimson Desert was always in discussions internally. The Pearl Abyss boss now confirms that such a feature has been in the R&D phase, but adding it is proving to be a massive challenge for the team.
Why it matters: Crimson Desert’s world is set perfectly for a multiplayer mode, but adding a separate mode to accommodate its large open world is proving to be harder than Pearl Abyss thought. Regardless, it definitely appears to be in the works for now.

In an interview with South Korean outlet Yonhap News, Pearl Abyss CEO Heo Jin-Young mentions that the developers are already trying to add multiplayer in the game, but it needs a lot of visual sacrifices.
Therefore, the team is definitely experimenting with adding a co-op mode in the fictional continent of Pywel, but its current progress remains unknown.
We have tried to implement multiplayer within the actual development team, but there are definitely some things that need to be abandoned graphically in the current device environment.

Pearl Abyss will likely continue working on multiplayer for a long time while reducing sacrifices. Adding a functioning multiplayer with visual downgrades could backfire, after all.
The CEO also expresses that paid expansions can certainly boost sales. However, Pearl Abyss is currently aiming to expand content through free updates.

Elsewhere in the interview, the CEO admits that Crimson Desert suffers from a weak story. The team could have further improved the campaign, but it focused on polishing the gameplay in the short time that was left.
