Looks Like The Saints Row Reboot Caused Irreversible Damage To The Franchise!

Story Highlight
  • Chris Stockman, the creator of Saints Row, says that Embracer has ghosted his pitch for a new game.
  • The pitch was for a sequel set in the 1970s, exploring the origin of the gang.
  • Unfortunately, the 2022 reboot has caused so much damage to the IP that it’s now considered dead.

Saints Row was originally intended to be an over-the-top satirical take on the open-world GTA formula, but unfortunately, the series has strayed away from its original concept over the past few years.

2022’s Saints Row, meant to reboot the series, turned out to be the final nail in the franchise’s coffin. Unfortunately, it has caused so much damage to the IP that it may now be considered pretty much dead.

Why it matters: Saints Row was the closest thing gamers could find to GTA. The series was amazing and one of the most unique games on the market, but unfortunately, it hasn’t been good for years and is unlikely to ever bounce back.

Chris Stockman, the creator of Saints Row, previously revealed last year that he was asked by the IP owner, Embracer Group, to develop a pitch for a new game. Unfortunately, he now says he’s been ghosted by Embracer and that they have “zero ability” to do anything about it going forward.

Regarding the said pitch, we already have a few details regarding the game. It would’ve been a prequel set in the 1970s, exploring the origin of the gang. The creator even expressed that he’d round up the developers from the first Saints Row game to work on this prequel.

Chris didn’t even think the 2022 reboot was a good idea in the first place and instead wanted a sequel. Had Embracer gone with his vision, things would probably be different.

Unfortunately, the studio behind the IP, Volition Games, has now been shut down due to poor commercial performance.
