Santa Monica's Reveal Could Also Be The Rumored God Of War Metroidvania Game!

Story Highlight
  • A notable insider has hinted at a major Santa Monica reveal at PlayStation State of Play.
  • The project is expected to be the next God of War game, or it could be the rumored sci-fi IP.
  • It could also be the rumored 2.5D Metroidvania spin-off based on God of War.

Santa Monica’s next title has been on everyone’s radar, as the studio has been radio silent since its last God of War title came out. The studio has reportedly been working on various projects within the God of War IP and a whole new franchise.

Regardless, a notable industry insider now teases that a major reveal from the team could be on the horizon. The team is expected to make an appearance in the upcoming PlayStation State of Play and could reveal a God of War sequel or its new unannounced IP.

Why it matters: The next mainline God of War title reportedly takes place in Egypt. On the other hand, almost nothing is known about Santa Monica’s mysterious sci-fi IP so far.

Reliable insider Shinobi has teased a new Santa Monica game for PlayStation State of Play.

Insider Shinobi602 says on ResetEra that it’s expected for Santa Monica to appear at the next SoP. The event is expected to last over an hour and will offer a deep dive into upcoming first-party titles, including game updates and new announcements.

Santa Monica has been working on multiple games over the years, as per job listings. Therefore, its new sci-fi series or the next God of War title may be ready enough to be revealed at this point.

The mainline God of War title is rumored to be set in Egypt. Meanwhile, the new IP has been under development for over 7 years. It is also described as PlayStation’s next big thing by another credible insider. Beyond that, almost nothing else is known about it yet.

The event is also expected to feature some other big hitters.

Santa Monica could also announce a GoW spin-off instead, although it is seemingly a different project from Cory Barlog’s game. The side project reportedly takes place in Greece and is a 2.5D Metroidvania

Regardless, it is best to take the report with a pinch of salt for now.
