- A new report suggests that Nvidia might be halting the production of the RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB variant soon.
- The supply could be discontinued temporarily or forever due to soaring memory chip prices.
- The RTX 5070 or 5070 Ti could become the next best options for gamers moving forward.
Memory costs have soared to new heights in the last few months, with high-end RAM kits becoming more costly than some of the best GPUs and PS5 models currently available on the market. And things are only expected to get worse for the next few years.
Unsurprisingly, GPUs are also suffering the aftermath of rising memory costs. New rumors now suggest that the production of Nvidia’s RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB variant could soon be discontinued temporarily or indefinitely.
Why it matters: The 5060 Ti 16 GB supply being discontinued could spell disaster for gamers seeking a midrange GPU with decent memory, as the next best options would be the 5070 and 5070 Ti.

This tidbit comes from a report by Board Channels, which highlights that rising memory costs have prompted Nvidia to reconsider its product strategy. The RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB variant is quite expensive to build since it relies on 8 GDDR7 memory packages.
As larger memory models face greater pressure, manufacturers may be forced to supply only the 8 GB variant of the RTX 5060 Ti as an entry-level option. It only uses 4 memory packages, which is more cost-efficient for the card makers.
Therefore, the next best option for gamers wanting a midrange option would be the RTX 5070 and the 5070 Ti models, which come with 12 GB VRAM and 16 GB VRAM, respectively.
The new Nvidia strategy will also address the slight performance-to-price ratio overlap between the 5060 Ti 16 GB and the 5070 GPU.

At the same time, the company can continue challenging AMD’s Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070, which are great alternative midrange choices because they also come with 16 GB of memory.
The RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB variant has already been harder to purchase from stores, as the memory shortage has worsened since last month.
Rumors have also suggested that the whole RTX 50 supply could be cut by 30% to 40% by H1 2026. So, we can also expect other GPUs to be affected by this memory apocalypse.
