- Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has dominated The Game Awards in a way nobody saw coming.
- The RPG has won 9 awards out of its 11 nominations, setting a new record for the most wins at this event.
- This record was previously held by The Last of Us Part 2, which won 7 awards in a single year.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 had already made history ahead of The Game Awards when it became the most-nominated title in the event’s history.
Since then, Sandfall Interactive’s RPG has won Game of the Year and set an entirely different record. With The Game Awards now concluded, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has officially dethroned The Last of Us 2 as the most-awarded game in the event’s history.
Why it matters: This record being held by a studio like Naughty Dog was not all that surprising, given the team’s history and talent. However, Sandfall Interactive taking the crown was completely unexpected.

For context, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was nominated for a total of 11 categories at The Game Awards this year. The title managed to win a whopping 9 of these 11 awards to beat the previous record.
In 2020, The Last of Us Part 2 won 7 awards, so Sandfall Interactive’s RPG has taken a comfortable lead of two awards. The following awards, including Game of the Year, were won by this RPG at the event:
- Game of the Year
- Best Game Direction
- Best Narrative
- Best RPG
- Best Score and Music
- Best Debut Indie Game
- Best Art Direction
- Best Actor (Jennifer English as Maelle)
- Best Independent Game

To commemorate the occasion, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has also received new DLC at no additional cost. This update brings a new dungeon, bosses, costumes, and much more to the game.
