2025 has been a tremendous year for gaming. We’ve had some outstanding AAA releases, but even better indie titles. However, across the whole year, since its release, one title has stood out, as it has demolished all competition.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has won the prestigious Game of the Year award at The Game Awards 2025. An even more impressive aspect of the RPG is that it was developed by around 30 developers and had a budget of just $10 million.
Why it matters: This year has been filled with brilliant games like Death Stranding 2, Ghost of Yotei, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Hades 2, and more, but Expedition 33 has been crowned the best of all.

Today at TGA, Geoff Keighley crowned Expedition 33 as the Game of the Year 2025. It was up against competition from Silksong, Death Stranding 2, Hades 2, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and Donkey Kong Bananza.
All these were excellent titles and completely deserved their place in the top ranks. Notably, Expedition 33 was also the only original game, while the recent ones were all sequels or connected to some major IPs.

This isn’t the only award the game has bagged today. It made headlines by becoming the most nominated game ever at TGA, and has managed to win 9 of its 11 nominations, which is a huge feat for an indie title.
It did a clean sweep at the Golden Joystick Awards and has replicated the success at The Game Awards as well. Sandfall Interactive has made a huge name for itself, and fans are looking forward to whatever it has next.
