- Santa Monica is reportedly working on an unannounced AAA project.
- A new listing suggests the title has reached its mid-production milestone.
- A Character Artist is usually required after the game leaves the concept stage.
Primarily known for God of War, the Santa Monica studio is currently working on an unannounced brand-new IP. It seems like the work on the title is going alongside the next God of War mainline and Metroidvania games.
We came across a PlayStation job listing for a ‘Senior Character Technical Artist,‘ suggesting that the secret AAA title has reached mid-production and progressed beyond the concept stage. An artist is usually hired after the concept phase.
Why it matters: The title remains largely a mystery at this point. All we know is that it’s an AAA project and different from God of War, which makes it even more exciting as Santa Monica has always been on the money with its releases.

The listing doesn’t give anything away except that, for people aware of the game development cycle, a Character Artist is usually required when concepts and pre-production are complete, and the project has reached mid-production.
This could also mean the reveal is coming soon. The gaming industry is currently gearing up for the year’s biggest event, The Game Awards, so that Sony could be preparing for a massive announcement.

Santa Monica also had another AAA game in development that a former Sony executive reportedly canceled. Still, this one seems to have made it alive, and if things go right, we could be hearing about it soon.
