- DICE has confirmed that you won’t see the use of generative AI anywhere in the game.
- However, the technology is exciting, and they will explore it in the future.
- EA has also previously shown intent to use generative AI in its game development.
Whether we like it or not, generative AI has become a huge part of game development now. Even big companies like Saga plan to use the technology. However, it appears that DICE has decided to steer clear of it with its latest release.
The developers have confirmed that they won’t be using generative AI for Battlefield 6. The prospect of the technology is quite intriguing and could be helpful, but for now, it can’t do things that a normal developer can.
Why it matters: When the term ‘generative AI‘ is associated with a game, most people think it’s a low-effort thing and therefore not worth it. So, most will be glad to know that DICE is still sticking to the basics.
Speaking to the BBC, Rebecka Coutaz, VP General Manager of Dice and Criterion, discussed the use of generative AI in game development. She said the tech is ‘very seducing’ but they can’t incorporate it into development as of yet.
She then further discussed the tech, saying that it could be magical if used correctly. It can allow them to be more creative and is not something to be afraid of. The only challenge right now is how to use it well.
EA had also previously shown interest in using generative AI. However, with Battlefield 6, you won’t see the use of it in the gameplay; DICE does, however, want to explore the technology in the future to make development easier.
Anyway, Battlefield 6 is set to release in less than an hour officially. All signs point to a huge launch, as the beta managed to reach over 500,000 players. It also received pretty decent reviews and an 84 on Metacritic.
