Story Highlight
  • Black Myth: Wukong DLCs were confirmed previously, but haven’t been released yet.
  • The developer has confirmed that it aims to focus on Zong Kui.
  • While the DLC was in development, the developer wants to prioritise its new game for now.

Black Myth: Wukong’s journey is packed with surprises, which left the fandom eager to see and explore more. Game Science had previously confirmed plans for Black Myth: Wukong DLCs, and rumors strongly suggested a release this year. Many expected a big reveal at Gamescom, but the studio had something else in mind.

Instead of announcing DLC, the developer surprised fans with an entirely new project, Black Myth: Zhong Kui. For now, Game Science seems to have put Wukong DLC plans aside as it shifts focus to this brand-new game.

Why it matters: Black Myth: Wukong won the hearts of many, which is why the demand for DLC remains extremely high, but the developer has other plans.

Game Science Director, Feng Ji, has revealed in a post on Weibo that while a DLC for Wukong is a good idea, the studio currently wants to focus on something entirely new

After releasing Wukong, the director was continuously asked whether the DLC was in development or when it would be released. So, following all of the pressure, the director pulled himself together and started working on the DLC.

For more than six months after the game’s release, Feng Ji focused on several key areas, developed some settings, and held several meetings. However, one day everything changed when the studio’s co-founder, Yang Qi, asked if he would rather make something entirely new instead of working on the DLC.

DLC is certainly a good option, but at this moment, we wanted to make a new Black Myth game first—new heroes, new gameplay, new visuals, new technology, and a new story.

This doesn’t mean that the DLC for Black Myth: Wukong has been scrapped. Although some development has been done, the studio currently wants to focus on Zhong Kui.
