Mafia: The Old Country Releases In Less Than A Week, But The Hype Is Very Minimal

The Fandom Has Called It Generic!

Story Highlight
  • Mafia: The Old Country is set to release in just three days, but there is just no hype surrounding the game.
  • It is currently not among the top 5 best-sellers on Steam and is sitting at the 17th most-wished-for game on the platform.
  • Previously, when the gameplay was revealed, fans called it generic and were glad not to pre-order.

Mafia: The Old Country was revealed to the fans almost 1 year ago, and it took them by surprise. On reveal, the hype was pretty high, but the same can’t be said now, even though it is set to release in a few days.

There is less than a week left before the title releases, but the hype and enthusiasm from the fandom are just not there. Recently, gameplay footage was released, which failed to impress the fandom. Many called it generic and were glad not to pre-order it. This could be one of the main reasons behind the lack of hype.

Why it matters: Usually, the hype from a mainline AAA game that is about to be released in a few days is through the roof, which is why it is concerning.

Mafia The Old Country Steam Wishlists
Mafia: The Old Currently Is the 17th Most Wishlisted Game on Steam

Mafia: The Old Country is set to release on 7th August, so there are only three days left until its release. Despite that, it isn’t even among the top 5 best-sellers on Steam; instead, it is at number 10

Games that were released last year or even before are at a higher number than the upcoming Mafia. This shows that the fandom isn’t that interested in the game

It is true that Mafia 3 disappointed many gamers, but so did Battlefield 2042. You can see that since the gameplay trailer and uncut footage of Battlefield 6 were revealed, it has been occupying the number one spot on Steam’s best sellers list

Furthermore, the game isn’t even in the top 15 most wishlisted on Steam. It is sitting at number 17 while games that don’t even have a release date are way above it.

The developer has perhaps tried their best to engage the fandom, as it even went back to the roots of Mafia and kept the world linear. If the gameplay reveal had been a little more engaging, the outcome may have been very different.
