Multiple Developers Say They Prioritize PS5 For Their Titles Over Other Platforms

'PS5 Makes The Most Sense.'

Story Highlight
  • Developers claim that they prefer the PS5 over other platforms based on the numbers.
  • It seems like the logical thing to do, considering the console’s high sales.
  • Even the Ori developers are considering skipping Xbox for No Rest For The Wicked.

The console war has been dead since the current generation of consoles was released. While the Xbox Series X is a more powerful console than the base PS5, it is lagging significantly behind in sales, and Microsoft has become more of a publisher than a console maker.

Even the developers and studios say they prefer the PS5 over other platforms. This comes from notable names in the industry, such as the studios behind titles like Ori, No Rest For The Wicked, Test Drive, and more.

Why it matters: On many occasions, developers have claimed that developing games on the PS5 is a lot easier. Additionally, given the high sales of Sony’s console, it is a safe bet for most companies.

Consoles without Disc Reader
Many developers say they prefer PS5 over other platforms.

Recently, a developer working on Test Drive Unlimited stated that Steam statistics aren’t the best way to measure their game’s success. Instead, PS5 is their biggest platform, and it has the highest number of concurrent players for the game.

He said that the PS5 community is a lot bigger, so judging the title alone by Steam metrics isn’t the way to go. You just don’t see the PS5 numbers this easily because they aren’t available like they are on Steam.

Now, Moon Studios, known for Ori, says that prioritizing PS5 for game development is the logical thing to do based on the numbers. They’ve also hinted that No Rest For The Wicked is likely to skip the Xbox launch.

Even Xbox itself has marked a huge shift in strategy, releasing its flagship titles on the PS5. Recent reports also reveal that titles like Indiana Jones did better on the PlayStation compared to the Xbox, so this seems like the logical way forward
