- Xbox has finally announced that Final Fantasy has returned to its platform.
- Both FF16 and FF7 Remake will be available on Xbox consoles by the end of 2025.
- Fans can expect future entries to launch on the platform on day one.
The Final Fantasy series has been a PlayStation exclusive for the last few years. Although major titles like Final Fantasy 15 and more launched day one on Xbox, the same cannot be said for the likes of Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 16.
Even though rumors regarding these titles have spread like wildfire online for many months, no official news has appeared yet. However, in a surprising turn of events, Xbox has finally confirmed Final Fantasy 16 for the platform.
Why it matters: Xbox fans have long waited to see this JRPG series heading to their platform, marking a major moment for them today.
The Xbox Games Showcase 2025 featured two major announcements regarding the iconic IP. For starters, Final Fantasy 16 launches on the platform today, making its Xbox debut just under two years after its original release on PS5.
Elsewhere, Final Fantasy 7 Remake has been confirmed for the platform. This particular title is not launching just yet, but Square Enix has confirmed plans for a Winter release at the showcase.
This also means that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will follow shortly. Moreover, fans can expect the finale of this trilogy to launch day-and-date on Xbox and PS5 as Square Enix hinted in the past.
Although this announcement does not come as too big a surprise after the gaming giant’s third-party push and fondness for Microsoft’s hardware, Xbox fans will still be glad to see the JRPG classic series returning to the platform.
Previously, games like Final Fantasy 13 were major highlights of Xbox showcases, so this IP and Microsoft have a long history together.
