Ever since the announcement of Stellar Blade’s PC port, there has been excitement and hype among the PC players. However, that excitement will soon fade when they hear that Sony is continuing the trend of region locking its PC ports with Stellar Blade.
The game, developed by SHIFT UP and slated for a June 11, 2025 release on PC, is unavailable for purchase in as many as 132 countries, mirroring restrictions seen with other PlayStation PC releases.
Why it matters: Sony’s region locking of its PC ports continues to raise eyebrows among players and concerns about its games’ accessibility in various regions.
Sony often restricts access to its PC games in regions where PlayStation Network isn’t officially available. Players in more than 130 countries, such as Estonia and Lithuania, may not be able to buy or even see Stellar Blade on stores like Steam.
Moreover, players in these countries can’t buy titles like The Last of Us Part 2, God of War Ragnarok, or Helldivers 2 on their local Steam stores. Even though Sony no longer requires a PSN login for certain games, these regional restrictions still apply.
It is unclear whether these restrictions are imposed by Sony; however, since they have not provided a response, it’s safe to assume who is responsible.
Adding insult to injury, Stellar Blade will be the first PlayStation PC port to use Denuvo Anti-Tamper, a tool meant to stop piracy. Many players have complained about it causing slower performance and other technical problems in games that use it.
Sony hasn’t officially shared which 132 countries will be affected for Stellar Blade, but this matches their usual restrictions. Their recent game, Lost Soul Aside, faced a similar region lock – about 130 countries couldn’t buy it when pre-orders started. Many players find these games either missing from their Steam store or labelled as unavailable in their region.
