- The RTX 5000 series, especially the RTX 5090 and 5080, is in high demand and has limited stock.
- A Chinese expert found that the manufacturing costs for the RTX 5080 are nearly equal to its MSRP.
- Due to the high production costs, the profit margins on the RTX 5000 series are much lower than expected.
With only a few dozen RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 available in most places, the GeForce RTX 5000 series is in high demand and has had very limited availability since its launch.
Even though the GeForce RTX 5000 series has been on the market for over a month, there aren’t many units available, and the ones in stock are priced highly. That said, the GeForce RTX 5000 series is extremely expensive, even at MSRP.
Why it matters: High demand and limited availability of the RTX 5000 series can drive prices up, making it harder for consumers to purchase at a reasonable cost.
A Chinese expert who examined 31 RTX 5080 models found that their manufacturing costs are quite high and nearly equal to their MSRP. The price of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5000 series is a subject of constant criticism; however, it turns out that a Chinese reviewer claims this is due to their production costs being ridiculously high.
He further adds that a seller informed him that the RTX 5080’s production costs, including the PCB and components alone, were about 80% of its MSRP. Additionally, the heatsink and graphics packaging would need to be factored in, raising the price by $100.
This means that the profit margins would be significantly lower than anticipated, according to the Chinese supplier, as it would cost an average of $900 to manufacture a single GeForce RTX 5080.
