Could Also Lead to Inflated Hardware Prices!

Story Highlight
  • Analyst says physical games could be in big danger after the Trump Tariffs.
  • All imports from China and Mexico will now have a 25% tariff moving forward.
  • This will not only impact the physical games but also all goods in general.

Donald Trump’s regime has seen big shakeups in the US, especially in terms of tariffs and taxes. While things were already looking grim, Trump has imposed a 25% tariff on goods imported from China and Mexico, which could be bad for physical games.

China and Mexico are two of the biggest players in the video game industry. They not only manufacture physical discs but also consoles, which could see a price jump as well.

Why it matters: The increased tariffs could make physical discs very unsustainable for the companies which could lead them to completely disappear from the market.

Analyst predicts that physical games will disappear in the US soon

Taking to Bluesky, Circana analyst Mat Piscatella revealed the impact the Trump tariffs could have on the physical games. The high costs could force the companies to stop manufacturing them, and completely move towards digital media

This could have a huge impact considering many people still prefer physical discs. Some major reasons for that are ownership, and that some people collect and exchange them. However, this could change very soon.

PlayStation physical media
The recent PSN outage brought attention to the security of digital media and declining physical sales

Now, this won’t only affect video games but everything imported from China and Mexico. This includes consoles, PC parts and accessories, and more. So, by the end of this year, inflation could touch a new high in the US.

The players were already quite frustrated with the price of PS5 Pro and recent Nvidia GPUs, but if things stay this way, we could see even more inflated prices and future generations launching at even higher prices.
