Edit 28th Feb: Microsoft will officially release Forza Horizon 5 on PlayStation 5. The racing game will be released on the new platform on April 29, 2025, and pre-orders are already open in the PlayStation Store.
Microsoft has been pretty vocal about its multiplatform strategy and avoiding gatekeeping from platforms like PlayStation.
The next major Xbox first-party title headed to the PS5 is revealed to be Forza Horizon 5.
Why It Matters: Forza Horizon is considered Xbox’s magnum opus franchise, and the series’ launch on PlayStation platforms implies that it is serious about its multiplatform strategy, which will forever change the console competition.
A new blog post on the official Forza Horizon page confirmed that Forza Horizon 5 will arrive on the PlayStation 5 in Spring 2025. Moreover, the title will include all the available DLC expansion and car packs to buy.
Panic Button, a well-known developer who has ported games like Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order and Forza Horizon 4, is developing the port. It is partnered with Playground Games and Turn 10 studios.
Xbox’s publisher route is working just as well for them. The gaming giant generated revenue of a whopping $6.58 billion in Q2 of FY2025.
With Forza Horizon making the leap to PlayStation, the rest of Xbox exclusives will follow the same path. Previously, it was reported that Halo might be another franchise headed for the rival platform.
If one question arises after the face of Xbox exclusives is headed for PlayStation, it is how they will be able to sell consoles in the future without leverage for competition. CEO Phil Spencer stated that they want to make hardware innovations for the next Xbox, which will be released in 2026, which would be its main selling point.
Sony is also speculated to follow Xbox’s multiplatform path. Reports suggest that multiple PlayStation exclusives will be announced for Xbox later this year, but it is unknown what those titles may be.
