Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 is off to flying colors. The game has debuted with great reviews and an even better player base. It also recently became Steam’s most-played Warhammer game, so there’s no surprise that the launch has been huge.
Space Marine 2 is now Steam’s 10th biggest launch for 2024. It has managed to surpass the numbers of its predecessor.
Why it matters: Saber Interactive has done great work with Space Marine 2. It is a proper next-gen experience with great visuals and gameplay, so it truly deserves the milestones it has achieved so far.
According to SteamDB, Space Marine 2 debuted with a massive 225,690 players. 10th biggest might not sound too big, but remember that Warhammer isn’t an IP for everyone, so the audience has always been limited.
Also, considering there have been some huge releases this year, this number sounds great. The games that had a bigger launch in 2024 than Space Marine 2 include Helldivers 2, Black Myth: Wukong, Sons of The Forest, Dragon’s Dogma 2, and more.
The rest are mostly free-to-play games, so we can’t really compare them. But this goes to show that Saber Interactive has taken the Warhammer franchise to the masses. It used to have a strict number of fans, but this increased with Space Marine 2.
The game also faced review bombing over Epic Online install. But it recovered fairly quickly, and with over 50K reviews on Steam, it has a very positive rating. The number of concurrent players is still very healthy, with over 150K players on average.
All in all, Space Marine 2 is one of the best launches of this year. It’ll be especially fun for people who prefer games like Gears of War. So, if you are a fan of the genre, the newest Warhammer could be a great experience for you.
