- Sega is reviving Jet Set Radio with a reboot and remake.
- Reports suggest both projects began development in 2021.
- The remake is being led by developers who pioneered the original game, but they are also receiving help from RGG Studios.
During The Game Awards 2023, Sega announced that Jet Set Radio would see new releases soon. While not much has been revealed about the title since then, an insider has claimed that two separate projects are in development.
In addition to a reboot, Sega seems to be leading work on a Jet Set Radio remake with the original staff. Both games are targeting a 2026 launch.
Why it matters: While this series has not been a part of gaming in recent years, fans are still looking forward to more releases.
One of the most reliable insiders in the industry, Midori, has talked about Jet Set Radio recently.
While addressing Sega’s reboot, the leaker stated that development on the project began in 2021. This was followed by production in 2022, and the same is true for the remake.
The current internal release window for the Jet Set Radio reboot title is end of 2026.

As for the remake, the insider reported that the project had been developed by the same staff involved in the original game. However, it seems Sega is bringing on members from RGG Studio(the team behind Like a Dragon) to help with the development.
It appears that Unreal Engine 5 will be the standard for these games since the insider states that both Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi are set to rely on this technology.
Elaborating further on the release window, the insider states that the remake should launch by early 2026. Meanwhile, the Jet Set Radio reboot will follow in late 2026. However, these dates are subject to change.
As the wait continues, we recommend that fans try Bomb Rush Cyberpunk, which was released on Steam last year and met with great reception. We expect a similar reception for Sega’s franchise once it returns eventually.
Japanese games have already found quite a lot of success this year.
Among the biggest names, Sega is doing better than ever, with the likes of Persona 3 Remake and Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth becoming highlights of early 2024. Therefore, the studio seems keen to continue this momentum moving forward.
