Sony Accelerating PS2 Emulation Efforts!

Story Highlights
  • Sony is partnering with emulation company Implicit Conversions.
  • This will help the gaming giant port more PS1, PS2, and PSP games to the PS4 and PS5.
  • Various games from these consoles are already available in PS Plus Premium, but the service will improve drastically after these efforts.

The PS2 is considered one of the strongest PlayStation generations and still stands as its best-selling console. Twenty-four years since its initial release, it holds the record for the best-selling console.

Equally impressive is its game library. PlayStation offers a few of those games through PS Plus Premium and the digital storefront, but recent updates hint that Sony is now looking to increase efforts in this department and bring even more PS2 games to the PS5.

Why it matters: This console has a rich library of games that deserves to be playable on modern Sony hardware since it is so important to the gaming giant’s legacy.

Implicit Conversions’ Description via LinkedIn

Sony is now working with an emulation company, Implicit Conversions, to bring more PS2 games to PS Plus Premium. The subscription already features notable names but still lacks a lot of fan-favorite titles.

Implicit Conversions is a group formed by a combination of former Ubisoft and Sony employees. The Sony employees involved in the company have also previously worked on a PS2 emulator called PCSX2, which supports a large library of games on PC.

While the group’s LinkedIn description states that it is working to bring games to all platforms, Redditors have spotted that it previously mentioned the PS4 and PS5 only.

This suggests a strong collaboration with Sony. A similar statement was made on their website, which was later edited to keep things undercover.

The PlayStation 2 Changed Everything For Sony

Last year, reports emerged that Sony was looking to develop a new PS2 emulator in hopes of expanding its classic games library.

It seems these efforts are now being accelerated, and it is only a matter of time before Sony brings over more PS1, PS2, and PSP games to the console.

There are several classic titles we would love to see going forward. These include Sly Cooper, the original God of War titles, Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3, and more.
