PlayStation’s Ports Make PC Gaming Even Better

PC Gamers Enjoying Best of Both Worlds!

Story Highlights
  • PlayStation has broken its generational trend by porting its exclusives on PC after their launch on consoles.
  • Being a PC Gamer can’t get any better, having the ability to enjoy games from almost all platforms.
  • More PlayStation games are coming to PC, according to leaks.

The gaming industry has evolved significantly in this decade and has transformed for the better. Since the industry is booming in terms of business, Sony has devised a new strategy to bring PlayStation releases to PC and introduce these titles to a broader audience.

This strategy isn’t only beneficial to Sony as these ports maximize the publisher’s profits but is also a win-win situation for PC gamers, who were previously deprived of the AAA story-driven experience unique to PlayStation.

With the recent announcement of Ghost of Tsushima coming to PC and a more aggressive push from Sony, being a PC gamer has never been better.

Why it matters: PC gaming has grown a lot in recent years. One huge reason for its growth is the reduced importance of consoles and their exclusives, highlighted by such steps from PlayStation.

PC Gamers Are Enjoying The Best Of Both Worlds

PlayStation Xbox PC
PC Is The Only Platform To Offer Games From Both PlayStation and Xbox

Microsoft was the first to make the transition. Today, the gaming giant releases all its first-party titles on the platform. However, this was not the case for PlayStation until a few years ago.

Now, with PlayStation games coming to PC and the guarantee for more in the future, PC gamers can enjoy an expansive catalog not limited by platforms or even generations.

For example, games like Counter-Strike, Valorant, and DOTA 2 are not available on consoles, but titles like Halo, Forza, God of War, and The Last of Us can be enjoyed on both PC and console.

Meanwhile, older gems like Metal Gear Rising Revengeance, which cannot be played on the PS4 or PS5, are readily available on Steam. This is why I believe PC is the gaming platform to choose in 2024.

While not every PlayStation title is currently available on PC, the current trend shows that it is only a matter of time before the remaining lineup follows. PlayStation waits around 2-3 years to port a game, but leaks indicate Sony will reduce this gap in the future.

Live-service games, such as Helldivers 2, have already found success on the PC platform. While Xbox players are actively asking for this game on their platform, PC gamers have already spent hundreds of hours fighting for democracy.

This is just one example of Sony’s positive impact on PC gaming. Let’s also keep in mind the fact that most of Nintendo’s games can be played on PC through emulation, though the gaming giant recently shut down Yuzu.

PlayStation Exclusives Coming In The Future

Demon's Souls

Following the commercial success of Horizon Zero Dawn and God of War on PC, Sony has already confirmed two ports for 2024.

Previously, it was leaked that Ghost of Tsushima, Demon’s Souls, Gran Turismo 7, and more would be coming to PC in 2024. Ghost of Tsushima has just been announced, and Horizon Forbidden West is coming this month.

Another leaker claims The Last of Us Part 2 is coming to PC this year. Moreover, Sony is reportedly considering porting Infamous Second Son to PC, further expanding its catalog.

If this information holds valid, PlayStation could release more older games on Steam, raising hopes for a potential Bloodborne PC port.

Spider-Man 2 is also speculated to swing to PC sometime in 2025, although modders have already developed an unofficial port that is not too far off from the PS5 version in terms of visuals.

At this point, Sony is no longer intentionally delaying PC ports to maximize console sales on the PS5. Instead, it appears to be a matter of studios like Nixxes taking time to develop the PC ports, considering the number of games that still need to be ported.
