Elden Ring Shadow of The Erdtree Difficulty Will Even Challenge Veterans

Elden Ring Prepare To Die Edition!

Story Highlight
  • Shadow of the Erdtree will be released on June 21st, 2024.
  • A reliable source has revealed that this FromSoftware DLC targets veterans directly.
  • This means that Shadow of the Erdtree will be challenging for even seasoned players, let alone beginners.

Elden Ring won Game of the Year in 2022 and put millions through hell. However, two years later, fans have become accustomed to FromSoftware’s difficulty, adapting to the various boss fights and hardships of this release.

With the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion promising to offer FromSoftware’s biggest DLC, the studio has the potential for another punishing experience on June 21st. It seems the team is not letting this opportunity go to waste, with a leaker reporting Shadow of the Erdtree will target veterans directly.

Why it matters: Fans of the studio and its work appreciate the challenge in each game, making this information exciting for most players.

Lance McDonald, a prominent figure within the FromSoftware fanbase, talked to the staff of Bandai Namco recently. They confirmed that DLC releases are always intended to be more challenging than the base game.

They target DLC towards seasoned players and are open to making it difficult beyond accessibility to new players.

While this statement may have been general, Elden Ring’s DLC will follow the same trend. The boss fights in both Dark Souls 3 DLCs were quite challenging. Sister Friede and Slave Knight Gael were a cut above most of the bosses in the base game.

The same is true of the Bloodborne DLC, with Orphan of Kos, Laurence, and Ludwig being among the hardest bosses. It seems history will repeat itself, with Elden Ring offering another round of tough boss fights.

Shadow of the Erd Tree
Shadow of the Erdtree Features Gorgeous Visuals

Elden Ring already has Malenia and Godskin Duo, and we find it hard to believe Shadow of the Erdtree will feature a more hectic and challenging fight. However, the Souls games have already proven us wrong before.

Bosses like Malenia set a high bar, so we can’t wait to see the challenges that await in Shadow of the Erdtree. We also recommend fans brush up on their skills and practice before the DLC if this is the approach FromSoftware is taking.

Mesmer the Impaler already looks like someone who will lead to numerous rage compilations. With an expansive map, regular enemies might also pose a bigger threat than base game foes as well.

Since there are no plans for more DLC for Elden Ring, we recommend enjoying all parts of Shadow of the Erdtree, including its difficulty curve.
