Assassin’s Creed Japan: Ubisoft To Fully Overhaul Graphics & Combat Animations

Will Also Feature Ray Tracing!

Story Highlight
  • Assassin’s Creed Red will reportedly be based on a new version of Ubisoft’s engine known as Anvile Pipeline.
  • This will lead to overhauled animations across the board.
  • The game’s combat will be similar to Valhalla’s but with more gore and brutality.

Following a classic experience with Assassin’s Creed Mirage in 2023, Ubisoft is gearing up for Assassin’s Creed Red in 2024, a blockbuster game featuring two protagonists, including the historical figure Yasuke.

A new report reveals even more details about the title. According to this information, the game’s combat will not be very different from Valhalla’s. However, Ubisoft will increase the intensity and gore in the battles.

Why it matters: Stories involving samurai are inherently gory and brutal due to their intense sword combat, so it appears Ubisoft is looking to bring an authentic feel to each battle.

Insider Gaming, a reliable source of information for leaks and rumors, has delved into various elements of Assassin’s Creed Red in its latest report. Sources close to Tom Henderson reveal that the franchise is finally moving to a new engine.

This alone will be a major deal. The Anvil Pipeline engine, as per Insider Gaming, allows all different Assassin’s Creed studios around the globe to work in a unified branch. Meanwhile, it will bring a much-needed overhaul to the series.

It will finally introduce ray tracing to Assassin’s Creed. Additionally, the Japanese setting will come with brand-new animations for parkour, combat, and more. Overall, this should give the game a fresh look compared to Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which often looked outdated.

The report further suggests that much of Assassin’s Creed Red was built from scratch because of this engine overhaul. However, this should help differentiate the game from recent releases.

In terms of the combat, it might not deviate much from the last release. However, Ubisoft is looking to introduce more gore and decapitations. Therefore, the combat, while similar, might feel quite different due to these changes.

Assassin’s Creed Red is also expected to focus on stealth and side content. The game will allow players to make a hideout, which will be customizable, adding a mini-game like Valhalla’s settlement mechanic.

Overall, these leaks suggest Ubisoft is serious about its next release. In the past, other sources stated that this title would be the publisher’s biggest investment to date, and fans might receive an extensive look at Assassin’s Creed Red in action soon.
