Larian Doing Its Part To Help The Industry!

Story Highlight
  • The gaming industry has laid off thousands in the first two months of 2024.
  • Larian Studios is extending a hand to developers after the recent layoffs.
  • The team is encouraging professionals to apply for general roles if their specific role is not listed yet.

The name of Larian Studios is held in high regard after 2023. While this studio was always considered among the industry’s most talented teams, the Game of the Year worthy Baldur’s Gate 3 has propelled the team to new heights.

The gaming industry is currently going through a difficult scenario, with layoffs impacting various talented teams. Thankfully, this developer is not among those impacted, and the studio is even encouraging laid off developers to apply for roles at Larian Studios.

Why it matters: Sony recently laid off around 900 professionals, and Microsoft cut 1,900 jobs from the Xbox division. Therefore, nearly 3,000 jobs have been cut from these two gaming giants alone.

Larian Studios’ director of publishing recently took to Twitter and noted the increasing number of applications at the studio.

However, Michael Douse went one step further and confirmed that future roles were not put up by the developer yet. He then encouraged developers to apply, even if their specific role was not listed.

The director of publishing went on to explain that more employees would help Larian Studios achieve its goal of creating the games they want to make. Fans hope that the team can eventually grow big enough to simultaneously work on multiple IPs.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has put the team in an incredible position since 2023. Earlier this week, Michael Douse confirmed that it had sold over 10 million units, making it the biggest release for the studio.

Therefore, Larian Studios is now giving back to the industry, helping it in a time of need. We hope to see others following suit, using this developer as an inspiration for a force of good.

While the gaming industry has seemingly broken down in many ways recently, various publishers have yet to announce job cuts.

As such, it would be incredible to see the strongest studios leading a hand to these talented individuals who face the threat of being unable to follow their passion for gaming due to current challenges.
