Dark AC Game Set In 16th Century Witchcraft Era!

Story Highlights
  • Assassin’s Creed Hexe reportedly features a solo female protagonist.
  • The last time this franchise had a solo female lead was in 2015’s AC Chronicles: China.
  • Hexe has been tipped as ‘the darkest Assassin’s Creed game ever.’

Assassin’s Creed Hexe is the next mainline game in the franchise planned after the ambitious Assassin’s Creed Red. The former has something different up its sleeve as it takes the franchise into a ‘dark’ direction.

The game will also be based on a female protagonist if recent leaks are to be believed.

Why it matters: Recent Assassin’s Creed entries from Ubisoft have featured various female protagonists. However, they were accompanied by male leads as well.

A report from Insider Gaming states that Hexe will feature the first solo female lead for the franchise in years. The last time we saw this scenario was in 2015’s Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China.

Choosing a solo female lead also makes sense, considering the setting of the game. Assassin’s Creed Hexe is set during the Witch Hunts era in 16th-century Europe, making this a fitting choice.

The character is reportedly named Elsa, and it appears the protagonist will be part of this Witch Hunt. Leaker Tom Henderson also states it will be ‘the darkest Assassin’s Creed game ever.’

Previously, Ubisoft already hinted at feminine energy for this game, with the developers aiming to leave a lasting mark on the IP.

With a solo female lead and a very different type of plot, this game is clearly heading in a very different direction. It is also expected to ditch the RPG elements from the recent trilogy, and Tom Henderson suggests that the game is aiming for a 2026 launch.

All the upcoming games, Assassin’s Creed Red, Hexe, and Invictus, will be part of a core hub called Assassin’s Creed Infinity. This hub will be the main platform for players to jump between the aforementioned games.

This report suggests that the hub enables seamless transitions between games. It also suggests that Ubisoft will introduce more live-service elements through Assassin’s Creed Infinity.
