- The Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth developers were aiming to score 90/100 after all the reviews.
- Following the reviews, the game has landed at 92/100.
- This achievement was made possible due to the team’s hard work and dedication.
Square Enix has found a new wave of recognition through its incredible work on Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. The game seems to have lived up to the IP’s potential, receiving critical acclaim with a 92/100 score on Metacritic.
While these review scores might have surprised some, the developers were already prepared. According to the director, high review scores were among Square Enix’s goals during development.
Why it matters: This score makes the upcoming release Final Fantasy’s second highest-rated entry to date.
Final Fantasy 7 rebirth is scheduled for February 29 as a PlayStation 5 exclusive. Following the reviews, it has become the second 90-plus-rated game after Final Fantasy 12 of 2006.
This fantastic reception motivated the director to thank the fans. He states that this score was only made possible after the hard work and dedication of the entire team behind the game.
Additionally, he requests everyone to support Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth till the launch.
To reach review scores over 90 was one of our goals.

In contrast, a game like Final Fantasy 16 failed to score 90/100. While the reviews were still stellar for last year’s mainline entry, the game landed at an average of 87/100.
Therefore, Square Enix has exceeded expectations this time. The JRPG is now shaping up to be the most popular modern entry of this IP in many years, which may translate to incredible sales figures following the release.

Like its predecessor, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth continues the tale of Cloud and Sephiroth. However, with the remake evolving into a trilogy, this entry offers up to one hundred hours of content.
If the reviews are any indication, this JRPG release could be a game-changer for Square Enix.
The gaming giant has recently struggled with operating profits, so Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, in addition to the PC port of last year’s Final Fantasy title, could help the publisher turn things around later this year.
