Spider-Man 2 Failed To Win Any Award At TGA 2023

Story Highlights
  • Spider-Man 2 was nominated in various categories at The Game Awards.
  • It was also a competitor for Game of the Year.
  • Despite excellent reviews and incredible sales figures, the game could not win a single award.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was PlayStation’s biggest highlight in 2023. It was the best-selling game of October in the US and became Insomniac’s best-reviewed game after many years, cracking 90/100 on Metacritic.

The release even managed to become PlayStation’s fastest-selling first-party title, selling over 5 million units eventually. All of this meant that it was expected to bag a few titles at The Game Awards 2023.

Much to everyone’s surprise, it did not win a single award at the event.

Why it matters: Spider-Man is among the most popular superheroes, and Insomniac’s work adapting the character has been praised as revolutionary for his portrayal in games. It is, therefore, surprising that no awards were given to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

The Game Awards 2023 concluded with Baldur’s Gate 3 emerging victorious. This game was nominated for multiple categories and won a large majority.

However, many were quick to notice that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 did not get its moment to shine at the event. The game received multiple nominations but ended up falling short in all of them.

This outcome could simply be attributed to the tough competition at the event in 2023, but fans have been disappointed. Unlike Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, popular games like Alan Wake 2 took home various awards.

Even the standout Xbox hit Hi-Fi Rush won an award. Therefore, it was odd to see Insomniac’s work going unnoticed at The Game Awards 2023.

We believe nobody is to blame for this result. While Insomniac’s latest superhero outing is not lacking in any department, the competition was a bit too much for a game that did not take too many risks compared to its predecessor.

Still, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has its fair share of accolades.

In addition to exceptional reviews and high sales figures, this title has shown technical upgrades that put the PS5 architecture to good use. All these qualities make it an extremely enjoyable game for anybody fond of the Marvel character.
