The Stalker franchise is poised to return to the industry next year after many years of slumber. Promising a current-generation experience bolstered by Unreal Engine 5, Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl will mark the beginning of a new era for this series.

The studio is making great strides in development, improving aspects like the visuals and overall gameplay with each passing day. During a recent interview, GSC Game World provided an update on development, confirming that Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl offers 40 hours of main story content.

Why it matters: The game is expected to cost $70. With a new price tag becoming the standard, the number of hours offered by a game is valuable information before launch.

With 40 hours of story content, completionists can look forward to an even longer-lasting experience. During the interview, GSC Game World confirmed four alternate endings for the game, incentivizing more than one playthrough.

The studio elaborated that side tasks will play an important role in the narrative. With player agency at the forefront, these tasks will offer different outcomes based on player choices of varying importance.

Some side tasks will also impact the main story. Since a major event like The Game Awards is coming up soon, even more details about the combat and narrative could be shared soon.

Apart from details about the story mode, the studio revealed a 60FPS mode for the game on Xbox Series X during this interview.

Recently released games like Spider-Man 2 and Alan Wake 2 offer around 20 hours of content in the main story. Therefore, Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl will be quite a step up in this department over such titles.

Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl is currently being polished to meet the Q1 2024 release target. It will be among the major titles on Game Pass in 2024, allowing a wide range of subscribers to try it before purchase.
