Spider-Man 2 Is Worth The $70 Price, Says Insomniac

Insomniac Is Confident In Spider-Man 2!

One of the most anticipated titles of the year, Spider-Man 2, is finally out today. While the game is shaping to be the biggest first-party PS5 launch, some fans are still concerned about the $70 price tag.

The game’s main story is estimated to last around 15-17 hours. An early user also claimed that the game could be fully completed in around 30 hours, raising some doubts about the $70 asking price.

However, Insomniac is confident that Spider-Man 2 delivers an experience worthy of this price.

Why it matters: Many gamers have recently claimed they are less likely to pick up new games due to the current price increase. RPGs like Starfield and Baldur’s Gate 3 have also delivered hundreds of hours of content recently, setting a high bar for upcoming games.

During a recent interview with BBC, creative director Bryan Intihar addressed the recent debate over game prices. He hinted that Spider-Man 2 is focused on a high-quality experience as opposed to a lengthy one.

The developer stated:

“I feel confident in saying that it’s worth it.”

The creative director pointed out that he is aware of this debate. However, Insomniac Games is focused on delivering the story that it feels is right for Spider-Man.

This involves a narrative lasting a certain number of hours. The studio probably did not want to extend the story more than it needed to, as that could have led to a lower-quality experience in the long run.

Insomniac is also focused on ensuring the end result is one that is worth the hard-earned money of their fans.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2

We do not believe a game needs to be a certain length to justify the modern $70 price tag. While Baldur’s Gate 3 delivers a lengthy RPG experience with few compromises, its success should not force other teams to extend their games beyond a certain playtime.

The $70 price tag is intended to guarantee a certain bar of quality, and Insomniac is already known for its quality releases. As such, the creative director has ensured that Spider-Man 2 will be no different in this regard.

Despite the doubts over this price, the game is already at the top of Amazon’s best-selling releases, highlighting that this price will not matter much for the game in the long run.
