Super Mario Wonder Playable At 4K60FPS On Emulators Before Release

Emulation Delivers 4K60FPS For Mario!

Mario is finally returning with Super Mario Wonder, a 2D entry on the Nintendo Switch. Scheduled to release on 20 October, the game will go head-to-head with Spider-Man 2, with both games expected to be among the biggest releases of October.

While the platformer is yet to arrive on the market, a build has already leaked online. This has resulted in Super Mario Wonder becoming playable through emulation.

Why it matters: Emulation usually delivers the best results for Nintendo games. In the past, emulators have allowed releases like Tears of the Kingdom and Red Dead Redemption to achieve 4K/60FPS on PC.

Due to the massive gap in the hardware of modern PCs and the Nintendo Switch, emulation is able to provide 4K/60FPS gameplay for the upcoming Mario game. The game is currently playable on both Yuzu and Ryujinx.

Both emulators have come a long way since release, providing a better-than-native experience for Nintendo Switch games. Since Super Mario Wonder is a sidescroller, it is much easier to run than most Nintendo games.

As seen above, the game runs nearly flawlessly, showing next to no hitches or performance drops. Mario games, in general, are among the most optimized Nintendo releases, and it appears the latest iteration will not be an exception to this rule.

This instance also highlights the advantage of emulation, but Nintendo has historically been against this practice. The gaming giant has partnered with Denuvo recently, hoping to put an end to easy access to its war against emulation.

Nonetheless, Super Mario Wonder provides a great experience on PC. The game will arrive on Nintendo Switch in just a few days, completing Nintendo’s exceptional lineup of first-party releases in 2023.

Another Mario game is rumored to arrive in 2024 or 2025, with a 3D Mario title possibly accompanying the launch of the Nintendo Switch successor. Apart from games, the iconic character has recently found success in theatres, joining the most successful gaming adaptations.
