68% of 3 Million Phantom Liberty Sales Came From PC Users

PC Gamers Love Cyberpunk 2077!

Phantom Liberty has effectively served as a new beginning for Cyberpunk 2077. The excitement around the expansion has not dwindled since release, with the game reaching 246K concurrent players after the buzz.

This expansion is the final piece of Cyberpunk 2077’s puzzle, allowing the game’s strengths, like the phenomenal open world of Night City, to shine brighter than ever. Cyberpunk 2077 has also reached 25 million sales after the expansion’s release.

According to CD Projekt RED, Phantom Liberty has sold 3 million units since its release, and 68% of these sales came from PC.

Why it matters: The PC gaming platform is bigger than ever, and such a massive gap in the user base highlights that this platform could grow further in the coming years.

The data includes sales from GOG, which accounted for 10% of the total PC users. Considering CD Projekt RED has been at the forefront of technologies like path tracing and frame generation on PC, this divide is not too surprising.

Over on consoles, 20% of the population was found on PS5, while the Xbox Series S|X accounted for 13% of Phantom Liberty players. It is also important to remember the expansion was not released for last-generation consoles like PS4 and Xbox One.

Traditionally, consoles have been the leading platforms in the gaming industry. However, PC gaming has seen a massive boom in recent years, with many transitioning to the platform due to its strengths.

We believe Cyberpunk 2077 is best played on PC. This platform offers high refresh rate gameplay, which is well suited to a first-person shooter. The platform’s modding capabilities further enhance the experience.

However, for console gamers, hardware like the Xbox Series X and PS5 provides an enjoyable 60FPS gameplay experience.

Following the release of Phantom Liberty, CD Projekt RED believes Cyberpunk 2077 has been completed. The game will not receive massive updates in the future as the team transitions to the Cyberpunk sequel and future projects based on The Witcher.
