DC has already lent several of its properties to gaming in the past. This includes the likes of the Batman Arkham franchise, which began 14 years ago and led a revolution in the genre of superhero games.
Characters like Superman have also been popular in the past, with projects like Wonder Woman and Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League bringing even more DC Comics characters to the gaming industry.
Wonder Woman is currently in development by Monolith Productions, the studio popular for Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War. However, a job listing hints that Monolith Productions may be working on multiple DC Comics games.
Why it matters: Following the conclusion of the Batman Arkham franchise, DC Comics has not been able to find its footing in the industry with superhero games. However, this may change in the future.
Monolith Productions is hiring an Executive Producer to work on future games from the studio. The job listing states:
“The Executive Producer is responsible for overseeing all phases of development for multiple projects.”
This statement suggests that the studio has more than one game in development. It is also possible that Wonder Woman is in full production while another game is currently in the early stages.
Furthermore, the job listing recommends experience with DC Comics franchises.
This suggests that Monolith Production’s next game after Wonder Woman is also based on a DC Comics IP.
Earlier this year, fans were quick to grab onto a statement from the Warner Bros Discovery CEO, which appeared to suggest that the studio was considering a future game for Superman.
Since Superman is arguably DC’s most popular character, a high-quality game could rival the Batman Arkham franchise. However, the character’s abilities make him challenging to incorporate into a game.
In addition to Monolith Productions, WB Games Montreal is working on its next project. Not much is known about this project, but the studio is known to work on games based on DC Comics.
An earlier rumor suggested that WB Games Montreal’s project is related to Superman, but nothing has been confirmed so far. Nonetheless, the possibility of multiple games based on DC IPs is very exciting.
With multiple DC games potentially in the works, popular characters like The Flash, Cyborg, and Superman are contenders for gaming adaptations in the future.
Apart from solo games, Ed Boon from NetherRealm Studios has also expressed interest in revisiting the Injustice franchise, leading to an exciting time ahead for fans of gaming and DC Comics.
