Thanks To More Cores And Higher Frequencies!

The pre-production sample of the upcoming Intel Core i7-14700K was recently reviewed by Chinese user 9550pro. This pre-production sample is part of the Raptor Lake Refresh lineup and is quite impressive, judging from its performance figures.

Compared to its predecessors, the upcoming Intel Core i7-14700K features more cores and threads. Additionally, the chip can compete with Intel’s current flagship, the Core i9-13900K processor.

The Intel Core i7-14700K will feature a hybrid design like its predecessor.

This hybrid design includes 8 performance cores with a base and boost frequency of 3.4 GHz and 5.6 GHz, respectively. Furthermore, the efficient Gracemont cores have been bumped up to 12 on the Core i7-14700K.

This mixture of higher boost frequency and extra efficient cores will ensure impressive performance in multi-threaded workloads. However, it comes at a cost, as the Core i7-14700K now consumes more power than its predecessor.

Compared to the Core i7-13700K, the upcoming CPU scored 14% higher in Cinebench R23. Similarly, it also took the lead in the CPU-Z benchmark, outperforming the Core i7-13700K by 20%.

This performance is also reflected in gaming performance. In this department, the Core i7-14700K was able to take the lead again, especially when paired with CL34 DDR5 8000 MHz memory.

Being a Raptor Lake Refresh, the upcoming Intel Core i7-14700K will offer marginal performance gains at a 30W higher power draw. Unlike previous generations, the 12th, 13th, and 14th generation lineups will be supported on the same platforms.

Therefore, users with Intel 600 series motherboards and above can take advantage of the refresh with extra performance.
