Full Fat AD102 GPU Canceled!

Contrary to previous rumors, Nvidia might not go ahead with the GeForce RTX 4090 Ti launch.

This report comes from the reputable leaker Kopite7Kimi, who has previously reported accurate specifications of the GeForce RTX 4000 lineup before release. According to the leaker, plans for the Ti variant have been canceled.

Nvidia has associated “Ti” with graphics cards offering exceptional performance bumps.

However, with the GeForce RTX 3000 series, the “Ti” variant took a downfall and did not perform as expected. Comparing the GeForce RTX 3090 and its much more expensive RTX 3090 Ti version shows little performance difference.

With about 10% more performance, the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti was a disappointment. The GeForce RTX 4090 is currently the fastest graphics card on the market, with a maximum power draw of 450W.

If Nvidia decided to launch a Ti version of the GeForce RTX 4090, it would have likely reached the 600W limit of the 12VHPWR connector. This may not have made sense for the performance increase.

The power requirement would also make the GeForce RTX 4090 Ti much more susceptible to the melting 12VHPWR connector issue that Nvidia has faced on its high-end graphics cards.

Aside from that, the 600W graphics card would need a more expensive cooler design, adding to the overall cost of an already expensive version of the GeForce RTX 4090. Nonetheless, the leaker also believes Nvidia has a few more plans for the current generation.

According to the report, Nvidia plans to use low-grade chips like the AD103 and AD106 to produce GeForce RTX 4070 and GeForce RTX 4060 cards. Nvidia has already done this in the past.

The PC gaming giant has no plans to launch a new architecture next year and has changed its upgrade cycle to three years. This means that the GeForce RTX 4090 will remain the best graphics card on the market for a while.
