The PS5 has been in the gaming industry for nearly three years. However, the console has not seen many discounts, with Sony facing shortages for the greater part of its lifespan. Earlier this year, Sony confirmed the shortages were over.
Several months after the PS5 supply grew to meet the demand, Sony appears to be gearing up for the first major sale promotion in US markets. According to a new report, the PS5 is expected to be sold for $450 in the US soon.
Why it matters: The PS5 already provides great value for the $500 price point. However, the abundance of cross-generation releases has likely meant that many have not purchased the console yet. This promotion will provide an excellent opportunity for such gamers.
The information comes from a reliable leaker. Billbil-Kun has been extremely accurate about PlayStation leaks and reports.
According to the leaker, the PS5 will be sold at a 10% discount in the US soon. This would provide a $50 price reduction. However, the US is not the only market expected to receive a discount soon.
The report states Germany and Great Britain will also receive a discount, with prices set at €474.99 and 404.99 pounds sterling, respectively. Sony has recently introduced similar promotions in other parts of the world.
This provides further evidence for the theory that the gaming giant is looking to get rid of existing consoles as it prepares to launch a new PS5 revision, one that is rumored to include a detachable disc drive with a similar form factor.
Unlike other markets, the PS5 has maintained its price in the US. Last year, the console saw a price hike in various regions, including Europe, the UK, Canada, Australia, and more.
Due to the lack of a price hike, the recent discount is even better for the US market. With exclusive games like Final Fantasy 16 being released recently and Spider-Man 2 coming soon, this provides an excellent opportunity for gamers on the fence about buying the console.
Fans should note that the leaker has not mentioned if Sony will introduce a similar promotion for the Digital Edition of the console. A date has not been provided either, but the sale should be coming soon if Billbil-Kun’s track record is anything to go by.
