Unreal Engine 5 For Black Panther Open World!

Black Panther is surging in popularity in the gaming industry. The character is set to be featured in a new WW2 game with Captain America in the coming years, and EA recently announced a solo game from Cliffhanger Games.

Cliffhanger Games is a new studio consisting of veteran developers from games like God of War, Halo, and Shadow of Mordor. Therefore, Black Panther is expected to be in safe hands, and there is plenty of excitement for the project.

While little is known about the project, a new job listing hints that Cliffhanger Games is going for an open-world approach and using the popular Unreal Engine 5.

As noted by Exputer, one of the requirements for the Senior Game Designer position asks for experience with open worlds.

It also requires extensive experience with game mechanics for this genre, hinting that Black Panther may be more ambitious than most open-world games. Previously, Cliffhanger Games developers have hinted at their ambitions for the world.

According to an earlier blog post, Cliffhanger Games hopes to make an expansive and reactive world for Black Panther. This could hint at potential RPG mechanics, evolving the world around the popular character as players progress through the game.

Furthermore, another open position at the studio confirms the use of Unreal Engine 5.

This is not surprising considering the current state of the industry. Unreal Engine 5 includes next-generation features like Lumen and Nanite, and the engine is expected to become the standard for the AAA industry.

Developers like CD Projekt Red have entirely shifted to the engine, and even EA studios like EA Motive are switching to Unreal Engine 5 for Iron Man. This also means that both Marvel games from EA will include open-worlds and use the same engine.

An open-world setting could lead to new and exciting possibilities for Black Panther. The character has been featured in Marvel’s Avengers but has yet to receive a solo game like Spider-Man, Batman, and other popular superheroes.

EA and Cliffhanger Games hope to change this with an engaging game that allows players to immerse themselves in the character’s role. However, recent games like Marvel’s Spider-Man have set high expectations for superhero games, and Black Panther has big shoes to fill to impress audiences.
