Game Includes Hero Roster, Spells, And Melee Combat!

PlayStation is making a massive live service push for the next few years of the gaming industry. Among the studios working on live service titles, PlayStation London Studio announced a brand-new game in 2022.

While not much is known about the title, the developer confirmed a fantasy London setting with a focus on co-op gameplay. A new job listing reveals more details about gameplay mechanics and hints at a Day One release for the game on the PC platform.

We spotted that PlayStation London Studio is hiring a Senior/Principal Combat Designer. As seen below, the listing points to a

“Well-balanced roster of Heroes.”

This could mean that PlayStation London Studio is taking inspiration from games like Overwatch. These games have a set roster of characters with distinct abilities, allowing players to utilize their strengths and work around their weaknesses.

Since the game has a massive live service focus, the developer will likely update this roster with new additions after release. The experience required for the position also reveals that the developer is likely to release the game on PC at launch.

The job listing asks for

“Experience delivering large-scale combat features, preferably on PC and Console.”

The PC gaming market has proven fruitful for the gaming giant in recent years. PlayStation has released various ports of older games, and a recent report hints that even more ports are planned in the coming years.

Herman Hulst has previously discussed a day-one release for live service games on PC, and recent games like Fairgame$ were announced for PC during the PlayStation Showcase. Therefore, it appears that this approach will apply to nearly every live-service PlayStation game.

The job ad also states:

“Experience designing spell casting and melee combat.”

This should ensure players have a large variety of gameplay options to choose from. It remains to be seen how fleshed out these mechanics will be, but the studio appears to be focused on plenty of varied gameplay offerings.

PlayStation London Studio has a history of working on VR games. However, the current title marks a massive shift for the developer. The studio has also rebuilt its engine from the ground up to fully utilize the PS5 hardware. This should lead to plenty of exciting possibilities for the developer’s upcoming title.
