Previously a job listing hinted that EA Motive’s Iron Man might use Unreal Engine. The developer had used Frostbite for Dead Space Remake, leading to doubt about the switch to Unreal Engine.
However, another job listing has confirmed that Iron Man from EA Motive runs on Unreal Engine 5.
Why it matters: EA has traditionally used the Frostbite engine for many games, but the industry is moving toward Unreal Engine 5. The new engine is more accessible, and its widespread adoption means developers should find it easy to utilize.
EA Motive is hiring for the position of Audio Software Developer, and the recruit will join the team for Iron Man. The job listing says:
“The upcoming AAA Iron Man video game developed with Unreal Engine 5.”
The recruit will play an important role in the audio systems that will contribute to the AAA Marvel game.
Another EA developer, Respawn Entertainment, has used Unreal Engine for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Additionally, Bioware faced various difficulties with Frostbite when developing Anthem.
Bioware’s game featured mechanics and flight systems that would be suitable for Iron Man. Therefore, it might be best for EA Motive to make the switch to avoid any potential issues with the Frostbite engine.
EA Motivie’s Iron Man will focus on a single-player experience. Much of the game remains a mystery, but another job listing has confirmed the game is set within a large open world. The game was previously reported to be in development since July 2021.
Unreal Engine has become the industry standard in recent years and might help EA Motive speed up development for Iron Man. The latest iteration also includes various additions like Lumen and Nanite, leading to plenty of potential for any game using this engine.
