Street Fighter 6 is among the three most anticipated fighting games of 2023 and beyond, along with Mortal Kombat 11 and Tekken 8. However, Capcom is the first to release the latest entry in its fighting game franchise.
Just three days before release, the reviews are also here, and Street Fighter 6 appears to be one of the best fighting games out there.
Why it matters: Street Fighter has decades of history and the franchise is still extremely popular. As such, any new entry is quick to capture the attention of audiences and fighting game enthusiasts.

Street Fighter 5 was not the best fighting game developed by Capcom, so the sequel had a lot to make up for. At launch, the game was lacking in content and launched to a lukewarm reception.
However, Capcom has been on a winning streak in recent years, and Street Fighter 6 is another exceptional release for the company. With a score of 92/100 on Metacritic, Capcom has released another highly-rated game in 2023.
Street Fighter 6 improves combat with new mechanics and improved accessibility. The game also helps beginners and experienced players with options like frame data for moves and cancels included in the practice mode.
Additionally, netcode is a huge improvement over the last game. The game features the popular rollback netcode that fighting game fans have enjoyed, and Street Fighter 6 also offers cross-play support.
Some critics have even claimed that Street Fighter 6 is everything the fighting game fans have been dreaming about. New mechanics like the drive system help to add more variety to the core gameplay while allowing players to pull off flashy moves.
However, the title can also fall short in some areas. The new World Tour mode adds an open-world element to the game and allows players to interact with Street Fighter lore through locations and characters.
While great in concept, the mode does not have a great story and does little to measure up to the other excellent parts of the game. The world tour experience is further marred by poor frame rates.
Still, players can enjoy the arcade mode and core gameplay where Street Fighter 6 shines the best.
Capcom has done a commendable job of bringing Street Fighter back with new ideas and refined gameplay. The first few DLC characters have also been announced, hinting at Capcom’s plans to support the game with content for years to come.
