DLSS Growing In Popularity!

Nvidia’s Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) technology was a game changer at launch. While it was great for non-RT games, this AI-based solution was also necessary for the implementation of ray tracing in games at acceptable performance.

Nvidia AI-based DLSS technology since then has come a long way since its launch and is a must-have option for almost every current and new game out there. The company has now announced that it is reaching a new peak with its DLSS technology.

It can now be found across 300 games and applications.

The first version of the upscaling technology, known as DLSS 1.0, was launched in February 2019. This was followed by DLSS 2.0 and DLSS 3.0 in April 2020 and September 2022, respectively.

As such, it took almost four years for the AI technology to be included in 300 games and applications. DLSS 2.0 utilizes tensor cores on the GeForce RTX 2000, RTX 3000, and the current RTX 4000 series, offering an image that was better than native in many instances.

Digital Foundry also extensively reviewed how well DLSS 2.0 image reconstruction technology is compared to the last generation, showing a massive leap in performance and image quality.

DLSS 3.0 Frame Generation, on the other hand, builds over DLSS 2.0 by injecting AI-generated frames. DLSS 3.0 also boosts the performance of games significantly, but it introduces latency. Currently, GeForce RTX 4000 series is the only platform that supports DLSS 3.0.

Furthermore, Nvidia has now also announced support for DLSS in D5 Renderer. D5 Renderer is a 3D render software for architects and designers, which now has support for DLSS 3.0 on RTX 4000 series from Nvidia.

With the high price of the RTX 4000 series, it was hard for most users to take advantage of upscaling technology like DLSS 3.0. The best option till now was the GeForce RTX 4070 at $600. However, with the launch of mid-range options like the GeForce RTX 4060 and RTX 4060 Ti, more users will soon have access to DLSS 3.0.
