Almost 12 years after Alan Wake was first released, the sequel, Alan Wake 2, was revealed at The Game Awards 2021, to great anticipation. Remedy Entertainment has previously announced a 2023 release date, but fans have been curious to learn more about the game.
It appears that the wait for the game will finally end soon, as Remedy Entertainment revealed more exciting information about the highly-anticipated horror game.
The developer’s most recent financial earnings report for Q1 2023 shows that Alan Wake 2’s development is up to par, and the game has reached the final stages of production before its release later this year.
Remedy Entertainment’s CEO, Tero Virtala, stated:
“We have started the last major phase of full production.”
Virtala claims that in the first quarter of 2023, the development of all the games has been going well, with Alan Wake 2 exciting everyone in the team and other games like Control 2 and the Max Payne remakes moving on to the proof-of-concept stage.
Nick, co-host of the XboxEra podcast and a well-known insider, also previously reported that Alan Wake 2 would serve as a true next-gen showcase. Furthermore, Virtala also stated that he is very impressed with Alan Wake 2’s production.
He said:
“I am impressed with the quality of the work and the development velocity of the team.”
Like its predecessor, Alan Wake 2 will be a survival horror game. The game will be released for PC and current-gen consoles later this year, skipping on PS4 and Xbox One consoles, unlike most games this year.
Moreover, Alan Wake 2 will make use of the Northlight engine, and Remedy Entertainment believes it will be ‘the best-looking, most beautiful Remedy game ever.’
It appears that Remedy Entertainment is happy with their work on Alan Wake 2 and the other projects they are currently working on. Now that the game is in its final production phase, we might hear a lot more about it soon.
With Alan Wake 2 on track for its 2023 release date and highly anticipated games like Control 2 and the Max Payne remakes progressing well, Remedy Entertainment looks to be set for an impressive showing in the upcoming years.
Fans could see more footage from Alan Wake 2 at the upcoming Xbox showcase or Summer Games Fest in June. PlayStation’s rumored showcase in May could also serve as an excellent opportunity to show more Alan Wake 2 footage to audiences worldwide.
