Sony Uses Redfall Exclusivity Against Microsoft Activision Merger

Redfall Is Indicative Of Future COD Exclusivity?

Microsoft’s Activision Blizzard acquisition has been chaotic since it was made public. Sony is trying its best to stop Microsoft’s merger, but Microsoft does not intend to let go of this deal.

Recently Japan approved the merger, and CMA concluded that the merger would not harm the console market. Sony thinks CMA’s decision is rather irrational and surprising. Now Sony has used the recent Redfall discussion to its advantage.

Creative Director Harvey Smith recently revealed that Redfall was initially meant to be released on Xbox, PC, and PS5. He further explained that once Micorosft owned Bethesda, it canned the PS5 version of Redfall.

Sony has now used this argument to support its case. The gaming giant claims that Microsoft should not be allowed to own the Call of Duty series as the same could happen.

Sony said:

“This experience provides further compelling evidence of Microsoft’s ability and incentive to foreclose rivals to acquired games.”

Sony believes it is compelling evidence that Microsoft can do the same with Call of Duty as it did with Redfall once it acquired Activision Blizzard. However, Microsoft had also responded to such claims before and said it has no incentive to prevent access to Call of Duty.

The CMA’s final decision on the Activision Blizard merger is right around the corner, and another controversial subject has been brought up. This should not come as a surprise since we have seen many instances in the past, and it will likely continue to happen till the final decision from all regulators is revealed.

Still, this move by Sony may help the gaming giant make a stronger argument. With that said, what do you think of Sony using this argument against Microsoft? Let’s discuss this in the comments.
