1.5 Million Concurrent Players!

After a long period of leaks and anticipation, Valve finally announced Counter-Strike 2 a few days ago. Featuring improved visuals, dynamic smoke, and more, the game promises to live up to the Counter-Strike legacy.

As players look forward to trying the next release in the franchise, many have flocked to the popular CS:GO in preparation. CS:GO has now achieved a new Steam peak concurrent player count of over 1.5 Million just a few hours ago.

CS:GO has been on an unstoppable streak recently, breaking its concurrent peak record several times over the last few months. Not too long ago, the game reached over 1.3 Million players.

The latest peak record appears to be a direct response to the Counter-Strike 2 reveal. Valve has also announced a limited test for the game. The developer will select players for the test based on factors like recent playtime on Valve servers and trust factors.

These requirements may have encouraged players to try and increase their playtimes for a chance at joining the Counter-Strike 2 limited test. Players completely unfamiliar with the franchise may have also tried CS:GO to get a rough taste of things to come.

Even without the recent announcement, CS:GO was the most popular first-person shooter on the Steam platform. Despite countless shooter titles with varying playstyles currently available, Valve has kept the Counter-Strike franchise relevant over two decades later.

Counter-Strike 2 has the potential to take things one step further. With an already large player base coming from the previous game, Valve’s upcoming title might turn out to be the most successful first-person shooter in over a decade.
